Alfred Morrison

1821–97

Autograph and art collector. Studied at Edinburgh University, 1836–9, and Trinity College, Cambridge, 1839–40. Joined his father in Morrison, Sons & Co. from 1841 until it was wound up in the 1850s. Inherited the Fonthill estate near Hindon, Wiltshire, in 1857. Became a collector of objets d’art and formed large collections of engraved portraits, historical autographs, and gems.
