Daughter of John Allen, vicar of Prees, Shropshire, and archdeacon of Shropshire, and his wife, Harriet. Married Richard McGregor Grier (1834/5–94), vicar of Rugeley, Staffordshire, in 1877. Great-granddaughter of the brother of John Bartlett Allen (Emma Darwin’s grandfather) of Cresselly, Wales.
