Charles William Wilson
1836–1905
Military officer and surveyor. Entered the Royal Engineers in 1855, achieving the rank of major-general in 1894. Led a survey of Jerusalem, 1864–5. First director of the topographical department of the War Office, 1870. Head of the Ordnance Survey in Ireland, 1876–86. Knighted 1881. FRS 1874.
