Gustav Tschermak
1836–1927
German mineralogist. Studied at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Vienna, from 1856. Received his doctorate from the University of Tübingen, 1860. Privat-dozent, chemistry and mineralogy, University of Vienna, 1862; associate professor of petrography, 1868; professor of mineralogy and petrography, 1873. Second assistant curator of the imperial mineralogical collection, 1862; director, 1868–77. Worked most notably on feldspar and meteorites. Retired and was ennobled, 1906.
