Lina Theodora (Dora) Schmitz
1844–1926
Translator. Daughter of Leonhard Schmitz (ODNB), classical scholar, and and his wife Eliza Mary Machell. Translated literary and scientific works from German into English, including Ernst Haeckel’s Natürliche Schöpfungsgeschichte. Changed her surname to Machell by 1918.
