Thomas Bentley
1731–80
Porcelain manufacturer. Classically educated textile and general merchant in Liverpool. Met Josiah Wedgwood I in 1762 and became a partner in Wedgwood’s ceramics manufacturing business in 1769, specialising in decorative ware. Managed the Wedgwood studio in London, and introduced highly successful neoclassical design into Wedgwood ware.
