James Aitken Meigs
1829–79
American physician, teacher, and anthropologist. Graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1851. Professor of climatology and physiology at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, 1854–62. Librarian, Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, 1856–9. Held several teaching posts at medical colleges in Philadelphia as well as numerous hospital appointments. Became professor of the Institutes of Medicine and Medical Jurisprudence, Jefferson Medical College, 1868.
