William Holbrook Beard
1824–1900
American artist. Portrait painter in Buffalo, New York, 1850–6; studied in Europe before returning to Buffalo around 1858. Settled in New York City, 1860; specialised in humorous and satirical paintings of animals in human poses, including several that make reference to CD’s theories.
