Horatio Hollis Hunnewell

1810–1902

American banker and philanthropist. Employed by Welles & Co., bankers, in Paris; on the collapse of the company in 1837, returned to the United States and became a consultant to businesses in Boston. A keen horticulturist. Financed public and university buildings in Boston and Wellesley; member of the visiting committee of the Harvard Botanic Garden, to which he made substantial donations.
