Thomas Holloway
1800–83
Manufacturer of patent medicines and philanthropist. Began selling ointments and pills from 1837, making extensive use of advertisements throughout the British Empire. Founded a college for women, which was opened by Queen Victoria in 1886 and named Royal Holloway College.
