Henry Hawkins, Baron Brampton
1817–1907
Judge. Called to the bar, 1843. Queen’s counsel, 1858. A very popular speaker in court, involved in a number of notorious cases, including the suit of the Tichborne claimant, 1871–2, and the prosecution of the Tichborne claimant for perjury, 1873–4. Appointed judge of the Queen’s Bench Division, then to the Exchequer Division, 1876. Knighted, 1876. Became Baron Brampton, 1899.
