Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm
1785–1863
German philologist. After studying law in Marburg, became a librarian in the Kingdom of Westphalia, 1807. Civil servant in the Electorate of Hesse and participant in the Congress of Vienna, 1815. Librarian, Kassel, 1816–29; Göttingen, 1829–37. Worked on the Deutsches Wörterbuch from 1838. Published on history of religion, mythology, and law, as well as linguistics.
