French chemist. Studied with Liebig in Giessen, 1836–7. Studied at the Faculté des sciences in Paris from 1838; received his doctorate, 1841. Professor of chemistry, Faculté des sciences, Montpellier, 1844–51; Faculté des sciences and École de pharmacie, Strasbourg, 1855–6. Author of Traité de chimie organique (1853–6).
