Samuel Richard Tickell
1811–75
Army officer. Served in the Bengal Native Infantry, 1820–43. Assistant commissioner of Chota Nagpur, Bengal, 1843–7; transferred to Arakan, 1847. Served in Arakan and Tenasserim, Burma, until his retirement in 1865. Studied Indian natural history.
