Christian Albert Theodor (Theodor) Billroth
1829–94
German surgeon. MD, Berlin, 1852; habilitated in surgery and pathological anatomy, 1856. Appointed professor of surgery, Zurich, 1860; Vienna, 1867. His textbook on surgical pathology and therapy ran to sixteen editions and was translated into ten languages.
