Samuel Thomas Soemmering
1755–1830
German anatomist. Professor of anatomy and surgery, Collegium Carolinum, Kassel, 1779–84. Professor of anatomy and physiology, University of Mainz, 1784–97. Thereafter, practised medicine in Frankfurt before becoming a resident member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich in 1805. Returned to Frankfurt in 1820 where he practised medicine and studied sunspots.
