Charles Nicholson, 1st baronet
1808–1903
Physician, educationist, and statesman. Emigrated to Australia in 1833, where he initially practised as a physician. Active in business affairs, he was elected to the legislative council of New South Wales, 1843; speaker, 1846. Visited archaeological sites in Egypt, 1855–8. Settled in England in 1862. Knighted, 1852; created baronet, 1859.
