Gulstonian Lecturer, Royal College of Physicians, 1857. Physician to King’s College Hospital and professor of materia medica and therapeutics, King’s College, London, 1862–74. Physician-extraordinary to Queen Victoria, 1890. A specialist in the treatment of gout. Knighted 1887. FRS 1858.
