Youngest daughter of Major-General Sir Charles Ashworth and his wife Mary Anne; baptised as Emily Mary Anne Ashworth at South Stonham, Hampshire. Married the natural historian Edward Forbes (1815–54) at Boldre, Hampshire, in 1848. Married William Charles Yelverton, fourth Viscount Avonmore from 1870, at Trinity Chapel, Edinburgh, in 1858.
