Claudius James Erskine

1821–93

Civil servant in India. Private secretary to the governor of Bombay, 1843; secretary, judicial department of Bombay, 1854; director of public instruction, Western India, 1855–9; high court judge, Bombay, 1862–3; member of the Bombay Council, 1865. Retired because of ill health in 1867. Son of Maitland and William Erskine.
